The best Church Ever!!

I had a discussion with two missionaries while I house-sat my brother's house in downtown Aurora, so I assume they were from this particular LDS church. The conversation was pleasant enough until one of them asked me if I was a Christian. I said I was, but I didn't belong to any organization because I feel they are motivated by money (tithing, collections), and that they kill each other. I asked if the LDS Church allows its members to fight and kill in carnal warfare. They said it does. I asked if that meant killing LDS who happen to be fighting for another country in times of conflict. They tried to change the subject, but I wanted a direct answer, this time making it a personal question: "In the event that the US went to war with Russia, which has LDS members, would you kill members of your own faith who are on the other side?" I about passed out in shock when they proudly said they would, that it would be an act of love to "return our brothers home." When I asked if they could honestly say it would be an act of love if Jesus blew someone's brains out, or his disciples forcing other Christians to dig their own graves before shooting them, they got angry and left. I never once raised my voice, I wasn't trying to embarrass them, and I certainly had no ill intentions. I simply asked them about a very serious topic, a topic which is directly responsible for millions of people abandoning religion every year.

Loved the opportunity to listen to apostles and prophets testify of Christ.

@Meaty Meaty Moo - This is a global church that deeply loves each member. If LDS members ever oppose each other in war, as you suggested the posbility to the missionaries, it would be in the spirit of love and righteousness for the dear brethren. They are enemies ONLY AT THAT TIME! If some die as a result of obeying their government, their reward with God will be richly blessed. LDS are proud patriots, and this ward is no different. What belongs to Ceasar is our loyalty. What belongs to the Lord are His children. Have some faith and see that your concerns are unfounded. #lovewinswars

Never once does the Bible depict Christians killing people, whether they were fellow worshipers or violent enemies. I'm reminded of when Jesus was captured. Peter impulsively maimed one of the mob, but Jesus sternly rebuked him and healed the enemy. It is the very definition of hypocrisy for anyone, regardless of religious affiliations, to claim to be Christian while participating, or even emotionally supporting, warfare. How can one say it's an act of love when the killed person's family are in agonizing grief? "A slave of the Lord must not quarrel; instead, he must be kind toward everyone," says 2 TIMOTHY 2:24. Perhaps the LDS Church, and those Aurora missionaries, need to dwell long and hard on the Bible before teaching its members, and others, that it is acceptable to kill, particularly another member of their own organization, in war.
